Bascinet “Frog-Snout” | Knightly Helmet 14th–15th c. | Hardened steel C45 2 mm | Weight 3.2 kg
The Bascinet with “Frog-Snout” visor is a classic late medieval bascinet, combining a light, streamlined skull with a practical, short, flattened visor. It is inspired by originals from the late 14th and early 15th centuries preserved in European museums. The “frog-snout” visor is shorter and less pointed than traditional hounskull designs, giving the helmet a distinctive look while improving ergonomics.
As a bascinet, the helmet provides full head protection while maintaining a relatively low weight, characteristic of this type of helmet. The flattened visor effectively deflects impact energy, and its shorter design reduces the risk of snagging during dynamic foot combat and tournaments.
The helmet features a removable visor, which can optionally include protective bars, and a spring-loaded visor lock, ensuring secure closure during combat.
The “Frog-Snout” bascinet is popular in HMB and Buhurt, combining safety, durability, and practicality, while maintaining the clear historical silhouette of the bascinet.
The helmet is suitable for sport combat as well as historical reenactments focused on functionality, providing solid protection and comfort. Optional brass decorations can be added for a personalized touch.
The helmet is handmade to measure, with full customization options for fit, finish, aventail, and additional accessories.
